know everything about MEGA AUCTION RULES BEFORE IPL2021.
A Brief Introduction:
The world’s biggest and most successful cricket league, IPL, started in 2008 when T20 cricket just got popular after the 2007 T20 world cup. India lifted that world cup under MS Dhoni’s leadership. After that, it is no stopping anywhere and getting famous day by day. Lots of controversies circled the league but they never affected the existence of the IPL.
There were 8 franchises in the starting and every franchise had a choice to retain one player from their respective city. Like Kings 11 Punjab retained Yuvraj Singh, Mumbai Indians retained the great Sachin Tendulkar and every franchise retained their local heroes.
But there were Chennai super kings which had a different target for someone else; it was none other than India’s T20 world cup winning captain MS Dhoni. Every franchise bid for him and he went to CSK for a whopping amount of 1.5 million dollars.
The mega auction happens every three years but franchises can release and retain players every year. Every year auction is called “MINI AUCTION”. There is a new rule of ‘Mid-season’ transfer also, where a franchise can sign any player from another team if that team allows trading him.

Mega Auction Rules Before IPL2021:
Do you know how IPL teams retain their players in the mega auctions? If you do not know, we will tell you the process here.
A team can only retain 3 players before IPL mega auction.
A team can use 2 RTM cards (Right to match cards) during IPL mega auction.
How they use RTM cards during IPL auction?
If a player is released by a team and that player’s name comes in the auction and some other team has won the bid for that player, then the same old team which was the franchise of that player for last year can pay the ‘equal winning bid amount’ to the’ winning bid team’ and they can retain the player till next mega auction.
(Ex: – if Mumbai Indians release Jusprit Bumrah from their team and in mega auction Chennai super kings has won the bid for Bumrah for 1 million dollars. Now Mumbai can get back to him again at the next mega auction if they pay an equal amount of money to CSK by using the RTM card.
Now a franchise has a chance to retain a maximum of 5 players from the previous year’s team.
